HARDER tO KILL

Functional strength & fitness in Kleinmond.
Online personal training for women 40+.

Ageing changes your body, whether you notice it happening or not.

Muscle and strength decline.

You lose fast-twitch muscle fibres and explosive power.

Bone density and anabolic hormones decrease, while changes in balance and reaction speed make falls more dangerous.

These are not small fitness problems.

Over time, they affect whether you can get yourself off the floor, catch yourself when you stumble, lift and carry things, climb stairs, travel, and keep your physical independence.

Not to mention heart, brain, and metabolic health.

That is why RÅGĒ Fit puts strength, power, stability, and bone health at the centre of training.

But the goal is not simply to prevent physical decline.

It is to build and maintain a high level of strength, fitness, power and physical ability, so you can stay in peak physical condition and keep doing the things you want to do for as long as possible.

PLEASE NOTE:
RÅGĒ Fit includes High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and hybrid-style training, but it isn’t trying to replicate CrossFit or another fitness brand.
My programming is based on what my continued study of exercise science shows produces the best results for staying strong, fit and physically capable as you age.
It also considers the hormonal and metabolic responses to exercise, which become particularly important during perimenopause and postmenopause.
The goal is understanding the right training stimulus, not simply feeling wrecked afterwards.
Every workout structure including the rest periods, has a purpose.

Sunel

Founder and Coach

Sport has been a big part of my life since the age of 7.

I earned Free State colours in cross-country running, triathlon, duathlon and women’s cricket, and later represented Western Province in women’s rugby.

I competed in triathlon and duathlon in the UK, trail running in Thailand, and the first HYROX event held in South Africa, in Cape Town.

My qualifications:

  • BA (Sport Science) – Stellenbosch University
  • BA Hons (Psychology) – Stellenbosch University
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)- National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)
  • Advanced Certificate in Nutritional Counselling – Health Academy Australia
  • Women Are Not Small Men online course – Dr. Stacy Sims

I continue to study the latest fitness research, and love me a big fat text book on strength and conditioning.

For the past 12 years, I have experienced the consequences of severe RED-S caused by under-eating while training.

It has sadly kept me from consistent exercise, racing and fitness competitions for most of the time, and I am still working my way back.

Alongside coaching, I have a genuine hunger for facts and the latest science. I continue to read research and take courses, with a particular interest in the research now emerging around women’s physiology and the differences between male and female bodies.

My goal with RÅGĒ is to help people maintain the best quality of life they can as they get older.

I want people to see that getting older does not mean everything has to go backwards simply because you age.

Exercise (done correctly) is worth the effort, and should be fun. It does not need to be nearly as complicated as the fitness industry and social media often make it seem!

Maggie

Receptionist, Chief Morale Officer & Security Guard

Maggie waits loyally at the gate for everyone to arrive and greets each client with more enthusiasm than a bride has on her wedding day.

She is highly skilled at sniffing out snacks, with gourmet hoofs and marrow bones being particularly effective.

She takes her security duties seriously and will deal with anyone who shouldn’t be inside.

She also loves licking faces, so anyone getting down for a plank should be prepared for a very close inspection.
